2019 Audi A8: The New Era Of Design

The 2019 Audi A8 is a juggernaut, a grown man’s luxury sedan that’s plush, powerful, and primed for six-figure self-gifting. It also represents an enormous step toward full autonomous mobility. The redesigned 2019 Audi A8 is all-new and rides on a new platform that features a 48-volt electrical system that supplies power to the optional active suspension and infotainment system, and also improves the car’s fuel economy.

The base car, dubbed A8 55 TFSI, features a turbo 3.0-liter V-6, good for 340 hp. The premium model, the A8 65 TFSI, has a turbo 4.0-liter V-8 rated at 460 hp. Both are smooth and quiet though, predictably, the V-8’s extra oomph won us over. Regardless of cylinder count, you get a “mild hybrid” system that recovers energy during deceleration, and employs a trick starter-alternator to shut the engine off when coasting.

Two engines will be available in the 2019 Audi A8 including a base 3.0-liter turbo V-6 with around 335 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque and an optional 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 with around 453 hp and 444 lb-ft. Both engines will be paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Available features will include laser headlights, the newest version of Audi’s MMI interface with a touchscreen instead of the more familiar knob and button setup, heated, ventilated, and massaging seats, all-wheel steering, heated armrests, an electronically controlled active suspension, and a foot massage function for the passenger-side rear seats.

In addition to the usual active safety features including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, blind spot warning, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection and lane departure warning, the 2019 Audi A8 also features maneuvering assist, an automatic parking system that can park the car into a parallel or perpendicular spot, an exit warning system that lets you know if you might hit someone with the door, and crossing assist, which uses the radar up front to detect for possible collisions.

This is where the A8 shines. Literally. Soft ambient and contour lighting complements ultra-soft leather seats, piano black trim, and open-pore ash wood inserts. The space is stocked with top-shelf amenities. Low-effort electronic door handles require less than 1/10 of an inch of movement to open. The cabin ionizer and fragrance dispenser has settings for summer and winter driving. Rear-seat footrests offer heating and massage functionality.
